Who are these guys?

At the beginning of the season the New York Yankees were picked as UNDERDOGS by almost everyone out there. Scrapping at the bottom of the American League East hoping and praying they could manage to at least get fourth place.

This harsh criticism came off the fact that the Yanks having lost key starters to injury before the season even started. These injuries included Mark Teixeria, Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez, and oh the future hall of famer and captain Derek Jeter.

The Yanks also lost key players to free agency such as catcher Russell Martin, outfielders Raul Ibanez and Nick Swisher.

But twenty games later the Yanks are in the mist of the Al East race and winning games by using band-aids and Duck tape.

They are wining with so called washed up players like Ichiro Suzuki, Vernon Wells, and Kevin Youkilis. Also who can't forget about Travis Hafner who is batting a soild .300 and has five home runs this season.

These new Yankees are not doing their job the old fashion Yankee way by pounding a team with run after run and home run after home run. No these Yanks are hitting, getting on base, and wining games with few run margins.

So who are these guys really? Jeter and A-Rod are not expected to be back till after the All-Star break. Also Teixeria and the Grandy Man are not expected back anytime soon either.

All things considered these bunch of misfit players need to continue to play at a high level until the starters can come back if the Yankees want to compete in September and October. But how much longer can they really keep this up? Only time will tell.

Goodbye Island

Darrell Revis after five seasons, 4 pro bowls, 3 time all- pro, and 19 interceptions for the Jets later gets rewarded by being traded to Tampa Bay. Revis was traded for no less than a first round pick this year and a conditional 4th round pick in 2014.

Revis reportedly wanted roughly 16 million dollars a year from the Jets in a long term contract that the Jets ownership stated that they could not afford.

Instead the shut down corner was traded from the team that drafted him back in 2007 to Tampa. Revis will hopefully get about 15 million in-guaranteed money according to ESPN.

Revis is coming off a torn ACL injury and there were question on his level of play after surgery.  So Revis is going to have to show that he is healthy on the field  in order to receive his money.

In the end, unless Revis can no longer play football or performs a a very low level then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just clearly stole the best corner-back in the league from right under the Jets.

First racial Integrated Prom in 2013!?!?

Segregation in schools has long been abolished, but as prom goes in Wilcox County High School in Georgia that is not so much the case.

As far back as prom goes for the school there has always been two separate proms one for white students and one for black students. The proms are not affiliated with the schools and are set up by the students and parents.

The students at Wilcox County High School have been going to school together, playing sports together, and hanging out together for many years and are now getting the chance to go to prom together.

There is no telling how well this is going to truly turn out though they have sold a total of 50 tickets so far.

Tear gas on Block Party 2013

Video courtesy of YouTube

Block Party is a great time for students in Bloonsburg to go out and enjoy the fresh spring air. Unfortunately for some it was not so on Saturday April 20,2013.

Tear gas and smoke was dispersed by police up and down Fetterman Ave. in Bloomsburg. This was done in attempts to clear the street of the large crowds of intoxicated people on Fetterman Ave.

According to WNEP 16 news, it was the first time the police used an armored vehicle called the BearCat.

Once the police started to clear the streets people started throwing glass bottles. Several bricks were thrown and directly hit the BearCat itself.

But the street were cleared and several arrest were also made.

A Long Haul in Laker Land

With Kobe Bryant out for the reminder of the season and even most of next season there is no way that the Lakers are going to do anything in the playoffs. Finishing the season at 45-37 just roughly 8 games over .500.

The Lakers slipped into the playoffs at the number seven seed by just beating the Houston Rockets in overtime in the season finale.

Regardless of how the Lakers fare in the playoffs there is no certainty of what the Lakers will be like going into next season.

Dwight Howard who the Lakers were able to acquire last summer in a blockbuster trade with the Orlando Magic is uncertain of his return to LA. And what real incentive other than money does Dwight have to come back.

They have an aging star studded team with Pau Gaul, 32, and Steve Nash, 39, that are on there way out in a few years.

Also Kobe Bryant who is 34 is out with an injury that requires surgery and it looks like he will be out for up to 9 months. Missing the majority of next season.

Even if Kobe Bryant comes back after his injury is he still going to be the same player he used to be. He had the most shot attempts with 625 attempst and only making 525 of them.

Even if the Bryant comes back 100% the Lakers still need to bring in Howard. And even if that is possible  it still looks tough for the glamorous Lakers to make a run at the championship any time soon seeing the way they preformed this past season.

For the Lakers the only hope they can hold out for is to land the king of coaches, Phil Jackson, back to LA.  Jackson coach the Lakers from 1999 to 2004 and then from 2005 to 2011 bring the Lakers home five championships.

Even if, Even if, Even if.....it seems that's all the 17-time champion Lakers have to hold onto is for now until the new era of player shows up in LA.
