As far back as prom goes for the school there has always been two separate proms one for white students and one for black students. The proms are not affiliated with the schools and are set up by the students and parents.
The students at Wilcox County High School have been going to school together, playing sports together, and hanging out together for many years and are now getting the chance to go to prom together.
There is no telling how well this is going to truly turn out though they have sold a total of 50 tickets so far.

It's sad that we think we're making all of this progress as a country and then you hear something like this. I were in Georgia, I'd be all over that!
ReplyDeleteI am so surprised to hear that this is still happening in the United States. I thought publicly we were past all of this nonsense. It is good to know they are finally taking a step into the present.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that we are slowly getting closer to fixing this everywhere even though I don't think it should be a problem.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy. I remember watching a documentary a year or two ago about a school similar to this one, where there was also a big controversy about integrating their prom. I feel like we have made so much progress, but when I read something like this I begin to realize how slow progress really is.
